SFPE Central Savannah River Chapter Participates in a PE Exam Problem Writing Session


The Central Savannah River Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) hosted a problem writing session for the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination in Fire Protection on Tuesday, May 19, 2009. This event was held at the office of LeGrand Engineering, Inc. in Aiken, South Carolina. Six licensed engineers from the Central Savannah River Chapter participated in this session.
“This is the fourth year in a row that the Central Savannah River Chapter sponsored a problem writing session.” said SFPE Engineering Program Manager Chris Jelenewicz. “The hard work of these volunteers is instrumental to the success of the Fire Protection Engineering PE Exam.”

Society of Fire Protection Engineers President Makes Presentation to Graduating Fire Protection Engineering Students


Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) President Richard Davis and Vice President James Milke presented 39 SFPE Associate Member certificates to fire protection engineering students graduating from the University of Maryland Department of Fire Protection Engineering. This presentation was made on May 6, 2009 in College Park, Maryland.

"On behalf of the SFPE Board of Directors, I would like to wish the graduates from UMCP and all other graduates entering the field of fire protection engineering the best of luck and continued growth in their expertise," said SFPE
President Richard Davis.
The first year of SFPE membership is given free to these students, as well as those graduating from other colleges and universities studying fire protection engineering.

SFPE Participates in Exhibit at United States Fire Administration’s PARADE Conference


On Friday, May 15, 2009 the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) staffed an exhibit booth at the United States Fire Administration’s (USFA) Prevention Advocacy Resources and Data Exchange (PARADE) Conference. The conference was held on the campus of the United States Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.


The PARADE program is a regionally based network designed to foster the exchange of fire-related prevention/ protection information and resources among Federal, State, and local levels of government. PARADE was initiated in 2003 to better assist the Nation's fire marshals in implementing effective prevention programs and materials and to conduct other networking activities. The PARADE network consists of the 50 State Fire Marshals, fire marshals from the Nation's largest fire departments, and one representative from each of the 10 Federal regions appointed by International Fire Marshals Association (IFMA) leadership to represent smaller jurisdictions.


During this event SFPE gave out free copies of the Chemistry of Fire Program and its quarterly publication Fire Protection Engineering Magazine.

SFPE Rocky Mountain Chapter Holds PE Exam Problem Writing Session





The Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) hosted a problem writing session for the Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Examination in Fire Protection on Thursday, May 10, 2009. This event was held at the Denver office of Hughes Associates, Inc. in Broomfield, Colorado. Six licensed engineers from the Rocky Mountain Chapter participated in this session. Each year, SFPE members write the problems that are on the Fire Protection PE Exam.

"Problem writing sessions that are sponsored by SFPE chapters play a critical role in the PE exam development process," said SFPE Engineering Program Manager Chris Jelenewicz.
