The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has developed a document that is intended to provide recommendations for the development of a Model Curriculum for a Bachelors of Science (BS) Degree in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE).
This document can be found at http://www.sfpe.org/upload/100415_sfpe_bs_model_curriculum_-_final_draft.pdf.
The model is based on a four-year program. Each school year is divided into two semesters (fall and spring). It is not intended to imply that this is the only acceptable combination of courses that should be offered for such a program. Also, it is not intended to provide a detailed list of individual topics to be covered within each course."This document was drafted by the SFPE Higher Education Task Group," said SFPE Engineering Program Manager Chris Jelenewicz. "The Task Group has a great mix of professional diversity; both educators and practitioners are represented."
More specific information on the individual topics can be found in the March, 1995 article “A Proposal for a Model Curriculum in Fire Safety Engineering” that can be found at http://www.sfpe.org/upload/iafss_model_curriulmn.pdf. This publication was used as the foundation for the development of the SFPE document.
