SFPE Minnesota Chapter Sponsors SFPE Sprinkler Design for Engineers Seminar on April 19-22, 2010

The Minnesota Chapter of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) is pleased to announce the offering the SFPE Sprinkler Design for Engineers seminar on April 19th - 22nd at the Maple Grove Government Center in Maple Grove, MN. The last day for early registration is April 2, 2010.

This is the same seminar that is taught at the annual SFPE Professional Development Conference and offers a great local opportunity to participate in an SFPE seminar at a huge discount.

The seminar has been updated for the 2010 edition of NFPA 13 and NFPA 20.

Time is Running out to Take the 2010 SFPE Compensation Survey

Two weeks ago SFPE launched the 2010 SFPE Compensation Survey. If you have completed this survey, thank you!

If you have not had a chance to take the survey yet, we encourage you to take 15 minutes (or less) to complete the survey. It is available at http://ccs-consultants.com/surveys/sfpe/2010/sfpe1.asp. All individual information received is strictly protected and confidential. The Survey is now open until April 5th.

This year’s survey is being conducted by a third party firm experienced in this type of work. We have added a number of enhancements that will allow us to better categorize an engineer by his or her experience/current role and how that relates to compensation levels.

List of Suggested References for the 2010 Fire Protection PE Exam Now Available

The Principles and Practice of Engineering (PE) Exam in Fire Protection Exam is set for October 29, 2010. The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has posted the suggested list of references for the 2010 exam, it can be found at http://www.sfpe.org/upload/2010_fire_protection_pe__exam_list_of_references.pdf.

Careers in Fire Protection Engineering Facebook Page now has Over 1,000 Fans

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Careers in Fire Protection Engineering Facebook Page now has over 1,000 members. The purpose of this Page is to promote fire protection engineering as an exciting and rewarding career.

The Facebook Page has links to career related information such as: the SFPE Careers Website, SFPE Career Guide and videos about the profession. It also has a great discussion page where fire protection engineers can discuss their career experiences with parents and students who are interested in finding out more about the profession.

“This has been a great way for us to get our career messages out to a diverse community and show how fire protection engineers use science and technology to protect our world from fire,” said SFPE Engineering Program Manager Chris Jelenewicz. “Almost 50 percent of our fans are from countries outside the United States.”

March 30, 2010 is the Deadline to Submit Presentation Abstracts for the SFPE Engineering Technology Conference

The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) is seeking high quality presentations to be presented at the SFPE Engineering Technology Conference being held on October 4-5, 2010 at the Astor Crowne Plaza in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Engineering Technology Confernce highlights advanced and cutting-edge presentations on practices in fire protection engineering that are used to protect people, property and the environment from fire. This is the ONLY forum designed to address today's challenges in fire protection engineering.

Presentations will be selected based on quality and relevance to advancing fire protection engineering practice. Abstracts should be approximately one page and provide sufficient details regarding the scope, results, and applications to determine the quality and applicability of the engineering concepts that would be presented. Presentations should be noncommercial in nature.

SFPE Member Makes Engineering Week Presentation at Arizona High School

As part of the Greater Phoenix Area Engineering Week activities, SFPE Professional Member Scott Grainger made two presentations about the profession of fire protection engineering at the Sunrise Mountain High School in Peoria, Arizona. Both presentations were made to the High School’s Introduction to Engineering classes.

“Both classes were very responsive,” said Grainger. “There were lots of questions and interest shown by the students and the teacher.”
